Project Description:

In mid of 2017, Groundcheck engaged by Inti Daya Kencana Director to provided geotechnical services study for proposed Solar Salt Field in Malaka, East Nusa Tenggara. Malaka is located in the western part of Timor island (in Indonesia Part). The site can be access by flight to Atambua airport with continues by 3 hours of driving. The site is about 1802 hectares with no direct access to all of the testing area.

The goal for the study is to check the suitability of the proposed development area and ultimately categorized land into several zone (area) depending on its ground parameter. In addition, the study also aim to get the soil strength profile for the some further stability and infrastructure development. 

In this solar salt field geotechnical study, our working scope is conducting 47 boreholes, 20 Cone Penetration Test (sondir), 103 double rings study (infiltrometer test) and a set of geotechnical laboratory testing (that carried out with our partner PT GWL – Bandung). The scope also included the tidal and bathymetric survey study that was carried out by our associates, PT OC Enviro. The permeability of the soil and ground infiltration rate were obtain from this geotechnical investigation.

For this work, the main challenge is the difficult and limited site access considering the area of the studies. However, with the support of PT Inti Daya Kencana field personnel and our extensive experience in remote area study, we manage to get most area tested and produced the initial goal of this study.
